James Robert Ballard was born
in March of 1950, in Akron, Ohio. He currently resides in
Akron with his wife and two sons, Aaron and Matthew. His
musical inclination shined as he released 6 albums from the late 70s
through the late 80s. As a singer and songwriter, Jim began
performing in the college coffeehouse circuit in the mid 70s.
He worked with folk and acoustic artists from Tom Paxton and Gordon
Lightfoot to Pete Seeger and Odetta.
Jim carried on in his musical career and put together a backing
band. He continued touring the college and concert circuit
while working with artists from Kenny Loggins to Ten Thousand
Maniacs, Poco to R.E.M. After leaving his performing career
in the early 90s, he began producing CDs for artists and songwriters
such as Charlie Wiener, Jon Mosey, Evan Davis and the punk group
Drop Gun. His Skylyne Studio has produced and/or recorded
rock, folk, alternative rock, reggae, blues, jazz, hiphop, zydeco
and even polka bands. Jim is currently producing a CD
compilation of Songwriter John Bassette's music performed by various
artists including Michael Stanley, Marti Jones, Tom Paxton, Alex
Bevan, Charlie Wiener and Mojo Mama. The CD is slated for a
spring/summer 2006 release. His work in soundtracks for film
includes Losing Hope, Horrors of War (a film by award
winning director, Peter John Ross [Jan. 2006]) and Imperfections.
Jim is currently creating the score for Nora Falls, directed
by Chad Kapper. The film will be submitted to The Sundance Film
Festival. His sons follow in his footsteps within the realm of
music and audio; his son Matthew created the SFX track for the film
Imperfections. All of Jim's work proudly carries his
name and integrity;
especially with a musical piece of his being aired for an Akron
University commercial during Superbowl XL.
